Our Story

The story of Armor 321 began in 2021. At that time, we (Taylor and Sarah) were leading an online, in-home fitness group. A friend, and former NCAA college wheelchair basketball player, reached out and asked to join our group. Unfortunately, the virtual fitness platform we were using did not provide any programs or workouts for seated athletes, however, we did not want that to be a barrier to joining! With Taylor’s skillset as a Physical Therapist, he modified a variety of workouts which required streaming from multiple platforms to piece together one full routine.

Ultimately, it did not take long to realize that this route was inefficient, ineffective, and cumbersome which still resulted in barriers to building momentum and seeing results. It was at that point that we began our discussion about development of the Armor 321 App in order to provide accessible, adaptive, inclusive, and evidence-based fitness options for seated athletes whether at home or in the gym!

We also realize that training at home or in the gym can be a lonesome process and easy to abandon. Because of that, we wanted to maximize community and accountability, so we created Armor 321 for both seated athletes and standing partners as side-by-side options. This allows for all family, friends, and coworkers to join in the journey and help build habits and routines together that can withstand the test of time. So, grab a friend, invest in your health and well-being, and enjoy the results!

Derek Klinker

Hello, I’m Derek Klinkner, a wheelchair basketball coach with a deep love for the game and a passion for mentoring student-athletes. In 2012, I embarked on my coaching journey, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Despite facing a T12/L1 spinal cord injury, I’ve embraced coaching as a way to inspire others and stay connected to the competitive world of sports. Outside of coaching, I am a proud husband to my wife Audra, whom I married in 2015, and a father to our five children. Their love and support are the foundation of my life, and I am grateful for their unwavering encouragement as I pursue my coaching dreams.

As a former student-athlete of Southwest Minnesota State University, I understand the dedication required to succeed in sports. While my fitness journey has been less active in recent years due to family commitments and job responsibilities, coaching allows me to stay connected to the sport I love while inspiring the next generation of athletes.
